Cloudflare Q2'26: The Agentic Internet Shows Up in the Numbers
Revenue +36%, record large-customer adds, DBNRR back to 120% — and a raised full-year outlook as non-human traffic passes 50%
Cloudflare just delivered its strongest quarter in years and raised the full-year outlook above Wall Street estimates. Revenue accelerated to 36% growth, large-customer adds hit a record, and retention re-accelerated as the company said more than half its network traffic is now non-human. The stock jumped 12.6% after hours to $329.85.
The print matters because Cloudflare is pitching itself as the toll road for the agentic internet, where AI agents rather than people drive traffic, API calls, and payments. Q2 was the first quarter that thesis showed up in the numbers.
What happened
Cloudflare reported Q2 2026 after the close on Aug 6, 2026. Revenue was $696.1 million, up 36% year over year, beating the ~$665.5 million estimate cited by investing.com. Important snippets from the call
All quotes from Cloudflare Q2'26 earnings call, Aug 6, 2026.
CEO Matthew Prince on the quarter:
"We had an extremely strong second quarter. We achieved revenue of $696.1 million, up 36% year over year. We now have 4,698 customers paying us more than $100,000 per year, a 27% increase year over year. We added a record number of these large customers, 986 net additions year over year, the most we have ever added over 12 months in our history."
On retention and margin turn:
"Our dollar-based net retention was 120%, up 2% quarter over quarter, and up 6% year over year. Our gross margin was 73.1%, improving sequentially for the first time in eight quarters."
On go-to-market momentum:
"Sales productivity increased year over year for the 10th consecutive quarter. New customer bookings increase at the fastest rate in more than five years. New pipeline generation continues to accelerate, again growing sequentially at its fastest pace in five years."
On the agentic inflection:
"For the first time in human history, in Q2, more than 50% of the traffic flowing across Cloudflare's network was not human. The number of requests on our network from AI agents continues to grow unabated." "We ended the quarter with more than 7.4 million developers on our platform. That's nearly 2 million developers in Q2 alone, surpassing the 1.5 million we added during all of 2025."
On new monetization:
"Monetization Gateway allows our customers to sell any resource behind Cloudflare, whether it's a web page, an API, a data set, or an MCP tool... Wallets... and Cloudflare.pay... will provide merchants and buyers an agent-friendly means to identify themselves and establish trust."
CFO Thomas Seifert on guidance and capex:
"Total revenue for the second quarter increased 36% year over year to $696.1 million. U.S. 51% of revenue +41% YoY, EMEA 27% +30%, APAC 14% +32%." "Network CapEx represented 7% of revenue in the second quarter... we expect network CAPEX to be 14 to 15% of revenue for full year 2026."
Formal guidance from the 8-K EX-99.1:
Q3 FY26: Total revenue $736.0 to $737.0M, non-GAAP income from operations $129.0 to $130.0M, non-GAAP EPS $0.34 Full-year FY26: Total revenue $2,864.0 to $2,870.0M, non-GAAP income from operations $443.0 to $445.0M, non-GAAP EPS $1.25 to $1.26
Why the agentic internet narrative matters
Cloudflare sits between users, bots, and origins. If AI agents become the primary way people interact with the web, every agent request still passes through Cloudflare's network, and every API or data set behind it needs authentication, rate limiting, and payment. That is the bull case behind Workers, the developer platform, and the new Monetization Gateway and Cloudflare.pay products announced this quarter.
The bear case has been that free and bot traffic dilutes margins. Gross margin fell 320bps year over year to 73.1% for that reason, though the sequential uptick and management comment that paid versus free traffic trends are beginning to stabilize suggest the pressure may be peaking. The shortage spreading from GPUs to CPUs and fab tools shows how infrastructure bottlenecks are broadening, and Cloudflare's plan to step network capex from 7% in Q2 to 14 to 15% for the full year is part of that build.
Valuation reflects high expectations. At ~$100.8 billion market cap and 43.3x sales, with a forward PE near 179x, Cloudflare trades as a high-growth software name where execution on retention and new products matters more than near-term earnings. The question of how AI infrastructure gets funded is relevant here too, as the whole ecosystem leans on capex.
What to watch
- Retention durability: Can DBNRR hold at 120% or push higher next quarter, and does gross margin continue to improve sequentially
- Capex and cash flow: Network capex steps up in the second half — watch free cash flow margin which was 8% in Q2
- Monetization of agent traffic: Any early revenue or customer adoption for Monetization Gateway, Wallets, and Cloudflare.pay
- Large customer quality: Record adds are strong, but watch net expansion and churn in the $100k+ cohort
- Restructuring follow-through: $150.7 million charge taken in Q2 for the agentic AI reorganization — management expects efficiency gains to show in sales productivity
